KID'S DAY
December 5, 1999

On December 5, 1999, our school held its 13 annual Kid's Day. Kid's Day is a yearly holiday carnival for kids in the Carmel area, run by various Carmel High School clubs and sports teams. The chairman for our chapter's involvement in this event was Secretary, Phil Gold. Every member who participated was a huge help.

On November 25, and December 2, 1999 Phil held Kid's Day Committee meetings to discuss plans for the upcoming activity. It was decided that this year, FBLA would run four booths. These four booths were the cardboard crawl-through FBLA Crazy Maze, Spin Art, Miniature Golf and a collection booth for the Humane Society and Ronald McDonald House charities. During the next two weeks, Mr. Brooks, Secretary Phil Gold, and several of the members collected cardboard boxes for the construction of tunnels in the maze. Our Advisor, Mr. Brooks, purchased paint, paper, and batteries for the Spin Art machines.

At 8:00 a.m. on Sunday everyone arrived, and after attendance we began the monumental task of setting up the four booths. It took approximately three hours to fully complete the project. While Phil organized supplies for the booths and supervised the construction of the maze, Mr. Brooks and other volunteers set up the Spin Art, Miniature Golf and charity collection booths. After set-up, everyone took a one-hour lunch break returning at 11:45 for last minute preparation and instruction before the kids arrived. At 12:00 p.m. the doors opened and the 1999 Carmel High School Kid's Day officially began. Approximately 800-1000 people attended the carnival-like celebration, at which the high school students had as much fun as the kids did. The day ended at 4:00, and the great task of clean up began. Committee members took down the maze, threw away the boxes and other garbage, cleaned up the paint from Spin Art, and disassembled the remaining booths.

The day demonstrated to all members involved the importance of teamwork and communication. Kid's Day also lets the community get to know the good side of high school students, and it is one way we can thank the local community for their support during the year.

Respectfully submitted,

Phillip Gold, Secretary

Glenn Brooks, Advisor
