Vink Drive Clean Up

Over the past three years, the Carmel High School Chapter of FBLA has participated in the Adopt-A Road Program. Our chapter has adopted Vink Drive, a highly congested road across from our school. As the requirements of the program dictate, we must service the roadway a minimum of four times a year. In order to service this roadway, intense planning needs to be performed.

The first objective needed to be completed is requisition of materials. The Carmel High School Chapter of FBLA drafted a memorandum requesting garbage bags and latex gloves from the Janitorial Department. After a series of conversations with the Head Custodian, these materials were attained.

The next objective needed was public visibility. As thanks for our participati6n, the county provided us with signs at either end of the street, demonstrating our participation in the program.

The final objective was setting dates and establishing a committee willing to cleanup Vink Drive. This was achieved through a series of announcements at general meetings, phone calls to the membership, and leaflet reminders. Once this objective was completed, Vink Drive could be cleaned up.

Members, while participating in Vink Drive, learned various lessons about the environment, the value of community service, and their town. This "town-beautification" project rewarded the membership by making them aware of the environment, and the importance of a clean ecosystem.

This year, the Carmel High School Chapter of FBLA has cleaned up Vink Drive on September 23, October 21, November 18, and December 16, 1999. Our chapter plans to hold more cleanup sessions later in the year.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph Daniel Remy, Regular Parliamentarian
