PARC Telethon
October 9, 1999
By Joe Pizzuti

On October 9, 1999 from 10:00-4:00p.m. the Putnam Associated Resource Center (PARC) held their annual telethon. The telethon is a way for PARC to reach out to the community and explain what they are about, and what they do in the community. PARC helps the mentally and developmentally disabled residents of Putnam County receive special help and occupational training.

Chapter Reporter, Joe Pizzuti, contacted the telethon's coordinator, Arlene Stoffel in late June. When attending a community breakfast on October 1, Vice-President of Community Service, Christine Lazzari and Vice-President of Membership, Meghan Towers made a presentation regarding FBLA's goals and achievements. They also discussed our participation in the telethon, and our on-air donation.

Through telephone conversations, Ms. Stoffel and Reporter Joe Pizzuti were able to discuss and organize staffing and responsibilities of FBLA members. FBLA members set up and ran numerous Fun-Fair booths for the entire day. Members Catherine Willisch, Nalleh Hanno, and Tracy Wright were featured on-air numerous times throughout the telethon receiving incoming donations made by telephone, while member, Ashley Willisch, provided on-air entertainment through her singing.

Many of the members were featured on camera throughout the day helping children at the fair game booths. Reporter Joe Pizzuti and Secretary Phil Gold were also featured on camera for an interview and to present a check for $50.00. The $50.00 contribution is our yearly monetary donation to PARC. Joe and Phil also discussed chapter activities and goals such as our adopted road, Vink Drive, and the food drive to benefit friends of Karen. During the six-hour telethon, FBLA members were featured in their roles as community volunteers.

Working at the PARC telethon was a rewarding experience for all that attended.

Respectfully yours,

Joe Pizzuti, Reporter
