The State Leadership Conferance is Coming!!!
The year is half way over and its been absolutely wonderful. December brings events such as Hannukah, Christmas, New Years, and studying? Yes, the time has come for all members who have worked so hard throughout the year to work even harder. This time, its not in activities but rather in brain power. The State Leadership Conference in Rochester, from April 11 - 14 will no doubt be exciting. All members who have been active will be rewarded on this trip. It fun, educational, and takes up 4 school days!! But remember, only members who have earned enough points throughout the year will be eligible to go on the trip. Please, keep up the good work, and dont lose your great membership attitudes. If you have any questions regarding the trip, speak with Mr. Brooks, and if your wondering whether your eligible or not, see the point lists posted around the Business Office classrooms. | Back to top |
FBLA Blood Drive
The FBLA Blood Drive which was held on November 19 went very well. We had 81 registered donors and collected 65 pints of Blood. We would like to thank everyone who participated and all donors in the community who gave blood, and didnt faint. And all those who did faint, we still love you too. | Back to top |
Kids Day
We would like to thank all members who participated in Kids Day! The event was a success. The maze was constructed again, and no one got lost.. The spin art table ran efficiently (a little messy) but efficiently. Thanks to all members who took the time out to participate, especially those who woke up at 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. | Back to top |
Christmas Tree Lighting
Looks like we have a few elves in our midst. Who are they? All members who helped out with the Tree Lighting ceremony on December 2 and 3. Perhaps we should seek member Jacob. Judging by his dress attire he obviously is the leader of their underground organization. | Back to top |

For myself, FBLA has meant more than 4 simple letters. I have gotten out of FBLA exactly what I have put into it. Because of this, I have met so many wonderful people, participated in countless activities and attended numerous exciting conferences. FBLA has presented so much opportunity to me, to travael, to learn, and to better myself. As I look back, I am extremely grateful for all that FBLA has given me and I am so glad that I joined when I did. If you invest your time into FBLA, it will deliver dividends that are ten fold what you would have ever expected.

My favorite experiences from FBLA have definitely been the conferences and competitions. FBLA members are some of the most competitive people around. I also play sports and I can only describe FBLA events as being akin to my field hockey games. If there is anyone who enjoys winning and competing against worthy opponents, then FBLA is for you. Another great thing about FBLA is the conferences, my favorite being the State Leadership Conference. Every year they converge on Rochester for three days of elections, events and awards ceremonies. This is the most exciting, and large conference I have ever attended. There are literally thousands of people to meet, froma ll over New York. (Our chapter hold its annual Twister games, great new for all you single folks). also, the feeling is one of intense enjoyment. Its just one big party, and the awards ceremony is something out of a wwf event. Smoke , fire, lights, and lasers its amazing.

I joined FBLA as a freshmen, not really knowing what I was joining. I had gotten a letter in the mail over the summer sahing htat i should join the business oriented club. My mom of course said that I should at least go and check it out. At first it seemed boring and not any fun. As time went on, I went to a coupld of events such as Kids Day at the High School, and PARC Telethon. These events really sparked my interest in FBLA, and I got more involved. As a result of being more involved, I was chosen as Outstanding New Member and went to the Spring Leadership Conference in Rochester. At Rochester, I met lots of new and interesting people and had a lot of fun. I never realized how fun FBLA was until I went to Rochester. After I came back, I wanted to be an officer in our chapter. I thought thtat if I was an officer, Id be able to have even more fun going to more conferences. i have had tons of exciting times over the past year and a half. So, to all of our members especially you new members, get involved. It cant hurt you, and you only have to go to things that interest you. If you go to a lot of things then maybe you will be able to go to Rochester and see for yourself how much fun FBLA can be.

I can say with all certainty that my experiences in FBLA have been quite unique. When i was in 8th grade, I recieved a letter in hte mail about FBLA telling me all about the club and why I should join. I disragarded it and went back to my room to play my guitar. My mother, however, for some reason chose to hang on to this letter saying, you should think about getting involved with this club. Yeah, sure, I paid attention.
In the fall of freshman year my parents told me I had to join a club in high school. It didnt matter which one, as long as I got involved in something. I was very reluctant, to say the least. A good friend of mine, Nao Valentino, who I followed around everywhere, also encouraged me to join this club. Between my mothers nagging and my curs on Nao, I was as good as signed up.
This year, my senior year, I look back on my past experiences in FBLA with pride. I have learned so much and gotten so much out of this club. I can only hope to pass on my experiences to the younger members who have so much in store for them if they choose to pursue it.

Joe Pizzuti -
Reporter
Three years ago I was a sophomore at Carmel High School. I was walking around after school one day looking for someone to hang out with. I passed by a classroom and saw a coupole of my friends inside. I asked them was was going on and they said, An FBLA meeting, do you want to join?. With nothing better to do I signed the papers, paid my dues and became a member. FBLA turned me from a disorganized slacker into an organized procratinator. All kidding aside, joing this club is the best idea I had in all of my four years of high school. Ive met so many people, learned how to be successful, and became better at socializing with strangers. The skills Ive learned while in this club will be carried with me into college and beyond. So keep with it and become as involved as possible, the overall education and enjoyment is immeasurable.

Pariamentarian
FBLA has provided a memorable experiance for me. Although I not interest in Business, Mr. Brooks go me interested in parliamentary procedure. It turns out that i was preety good at Parli Pro. I won first place at the State Leadership confenece and ninth place at the National Level for Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure. While competing at the National Level, I had the chance to explore Orlando, Florida. I developed connections adn had the chance to meet a lot of new people. I ran for State Parliamentarian in 1998, although i did not receive the appointment, I learned a lot about interviews and elections. Today I stand before you as the Carmel Chapter of FBLAs Parliamentarian. With aspirations to hold State Officed. What will happen in my future? Who knows, but, I will always cherish my memories of FBLA and serving as your chapter Parliamentarian.

What is Parliamentary
Procedure? What does it do? What the heck is the previous question? You,
as a new member, probably have not been experienced with Parliamentary Procedure;
yet it is used in the everyday practices of FBLA. Parliamentary Procedure
is a systematic way to run an orderly meeting. It saves time during our
general meetings so you can participate in other activities and sports.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of terminology to learn. Here is a list of
some common terms used in Parliamentary Procedures: Main Motion: the way
to introduce a new idea (or new business) to an assembly (group of people).
When introducing main motions say, I move to (idea). Amendment: to adjust
the main motion with the addition, deletion, or inserting of words. Adjourn
a continuation of a past meeting Recess: a short intermission in a meeting
Previous Question: to move the previous question is to bring the matter
before the assembly to an immediate vote. Point of Information: if a member
(thats you) is confused about what just occurred during the meeting, you
may want to use this motion. Just say Point of Information during the meeting,
and say, What just happened? Roberts Rules of Order: the bible of Parliamentary
Procedure. If you want to know about what goes on during a meeting, read
it. There are many other motions besides the ones listed above. They are
divided into three classes. The Main Motion introduces business to an assembly.
Subsidiary motions aid the main motion. Privileged motions are important
to general meetings agenda; they include Adjournment, Recess, etc. In the
next issue, we will examine these motions to give you, the member, more
of an understanding of the meetings in FBLA. Who knows? Maybe, you have
an idea that could be proposed at a general meeting. This is your Parliamentarian,
Joseph Daniel Remy. Peace Out.
